I use my blogs, my wall, all my writing as a form of activism. I'm speaking to someone who's suffering in silence or feels like they don't have a voice...and I'd like to let them know that there's someone out there going through it and they're not in this alone...so when someone gets on a thread...particularly someone who I'm not addressing and derails the conversation...a lot of times that, silences or shuts down the very person I was trying to reach...
I can't tell you how many relationships, projects have been forged when folks inbox me in response to a social media post...especially young women and women of color ...that's important to me...and I'm pretty vehement about those people's thoughts, feelings and ideas not being shut down....when someone posts something disrespectful or dismissive, I find it to be an act of aggression and I won't have it... My wall is safe space...so is everyone else's...folks are on social media for all kinds of reasons...I'm on it to make other little brown girls like me feel a lot less invisible...and ultimately powerful...
