Being able to communicate very succinctly & clearly what u want where ur going while knowing very specifically why ur leaving where u currently live). i wrote to a realtor: i'm an expat of afro cuban descent whose lived in morocco but needed to move stateside to be closer to my family during covid. I speak spanish & need the tropics to be happy, so i thought mexico would be a good choice. i love hillside/cliff homes w/ocean views the best,, adobe houses, minimalism, renovated colonials or adobe houses (like the riads in morocco where i lived) are my favorites. but i need to see & be relatively close to the ocean for peace of mind. i'm looking at oaxaca bec there seems to be less built up modern stuff (which i deplore)& more handmade things that fit w/in the culture & landscape. I've lived in palm frond roofs homes in zimbabwe & belize and would like to avoid them but if i find an adobe w/ one that i love, i'll happily change the roof down the line. i've been researching merida, sayulita, tulum & not finding the right fit that's alot of info, but its where i am & am spending lots of time researching each day...i speak spanish, would like to be apart of a thriving community & not necessarily expats (that's why i'm leaving america...lol...) His response: "Oaxaca is definitely the place for u. The Oaxacan coast is fabulous. Many options as to location, but I really think the Puerto Angel area might be the best fit. It is still relatively inexpensive. By the way, there is a large Afro/Mexican community in Chacahua abt an hour north of here. That could also work. Actually, I think definitely! Saludos" I watched the Chacahua video & heard, for the first time in my life, an Afro Latina girl child being proud & unapologetic abt being black, beautiful & Mexican Where I'm from, that is unheard of...Blatinos actually acknowledging blackness...wow... I knew this was a place where culture runs deep & clarity of who/what we are takes precedence. Those are my core values hence I always end up living places where the world I want to live in already exists. It's fool proof...bec it's specific... Suerte Besos y Abrazos
