in keeping with last week's theme of "giving up what no longer serves you," I offer this bit of hard-won wisdom. Often, standing in what we think we want even when the wanting diminishes us gets in the way of pursuing things that will help us grow and get to places we've never imaginged.
a key example is staying in a job you don't like in the hopes that security will be the reward. we spend a lifetime getting secure which is such a phantom concept that stops you from living. we wait until we're too old to travel, paint, act, write a book, fall in love because security becomes the elusive dream. or worse yet, we hold onto pleasing others and fitting in, in the hopes that that will satifies us. pleasing others, fitting in, finding security are phantom concepts because they are not measurable. they are not things that are completely within your control. these phantoms are akin to chasing the wind and when you realize that you are not able to hold it in your hands; you feel defeated and unsatisfied. chasing the wind never allows you to be present and in the moment. it makes your happiness dependent on others. it's a way of relinquishing your power because it denies you the opportunity to cast the spells that create real magic in your life. as Paulo Coelho talks about the pursuit of your own personal legend in "The Alchemist," what you're willing to give up to get closer to what you want is the stuff of legend in our lives. it requires the courage to go against the grain, to pursue your own individuality and discover what you love and more importantly what you're capable of when you committ to the path you were put here to take instead of the path others have deemed most important. each heroine's journey is unique to them. that journey involves the four major life lessons we were put here to get right in this lifetime. the journey requires getting comfortable with the things you cannot control while relishing the the dreams you attempt to live out. it requires being present in your dreams and committing wholeheartedly to what brings you joy. it involves risk-taking, falling down and being messy to discover the juiciest parts of ourselves. the rewards are happiness, faith, and wild amounts of self-esteem based on your ability to dare to transform your dreams into reality. when you climb a moutain and look down on where you've been, it's like a karmic hug for your soul. at the top of the mountain, your soul starts singing about how good it was to make the climb. your soul's song is a remembrance and a testimony to all that is bright and beautiful in the world and within you. your song's song is your committment to dreaming your personal legend outloud. writing it down is the perfect place to begin the committment... so don't get your life right, get it true... your personal truth, your soul's song is far more glorious than your wildest imaginings....
