The Sunday Self -Care Day became a part of my life around the same time as my writing did. I realized the two were one in the same. As my coaching business has grown, I've learned that writing is the one true place that shows people where they've quit on themselves. The ability to stay on the page even without an agenda and just talk about you is really hard for folks. They'd rather take care of someone else, feel driven by what they "should" be doing in order to be a good woman, wife or daughter. They're working out, regulating their calendar, multi-tasking for others...working themselves into an exhaustion to get to some level of: I am good enuf. This inability to focus on the self and do nothing is an act of resistance to self-care. A resistance to going online and looking outside yourself for validation or where you should be in your life by this age, time or place. When you never sit still within yourself and focus all of that energy within, you never get to cherish you. Mostly, I find folks sit down, go within and then leave with a laundry list of what's wrong with them. That's because we've spent lifetimes trying to measure up to other peoples' beliefs about success and wholeness. When you're always focused outwardly, you never have time to really access what makes you happy. What makes you feel like sunshine and ease. Your whole measuring stick of who and what you are has everything to do with pleasing others and showing up in society in a way that makes you "acceptable."
