As someone who had to learn how to use seemingly scary technology to run my own online coaching business, I understand the anxiety and overwhelm. So here’s what the last 15 years of becoming a digital nomad has taught me about freedom & working from home. 1. Create Rituals...a space to work, a space to meditate, a time to clean house. 2. Create a ritual of maaking small meals that require that you put your full attention on the joy of creating, eating a hot meal that you prepared for yourself. This is self-care. 3. Online workouts are great bec you should never sit in front of a laptop for more than 90 mins w/out taking a break. Do 3 10 min workouts throughout the day. 4. UTube is your friend, use her. If you feel overwhelmed by google hangouts, zoom, videoconferencing, don’t try to do everything in one day...pick one platform and take the free minicourses on utube. Give yourself permission to mess up, go have a cookie and come back fresh. 5. I cannot emphasize this enuf: Google is free. Learn how to do any and everything online from paying bills, to doing your own taxes, to shopping for household essentials. Anything that burned up hours of ur time travelling to do can be done online. When I was in NYC, I got to the point, everything was delivered so that times I left my house were actually to do fun things and never tedious errands (this is a trick digital nomads have mastered ) - how to free up your time so that u spend it living ur life instead of running errands or overworking 6. Running around NYC ran down my immune system and kept me stressed, so the first thing I learned abt working from home was how to prioritize a healthy spirit and a healthy body: morning ritual of reading, stretching, tea, a great breakfast and morning supplemrnts was critical: ginger or tumeric tea every morning and evening. I take supplements for health and to build my immunity: a multi vitamin, vitamin C, E, B, D, Biotin, Lysine daily and Oregano oil when I feel tired or sickish. 7. Clean out your social media life, unfriend all accounts that don’t feed your spirit. So that whenever, you do get online, you’re supported, fed and uplifted. Create a page for business and separate business contacts from your friend list. 8. The four hour workweek was really an instrumental guide for me...it taught me how to organize and optimize my time as a business person who works completely online. We waste a lot of time running from stillness and being present in our lives. We also waste a lot of doing things that we could automate (like send 20 emails to schedule something, or not having a place where you tell people what you do & they click buy instead of 10 emails back and forth explaining how they can hire you. 9. If you can’t hire a coach, you might want to use google and utube to teach you how to change the fabric of your life. I actually cannot think of any resource that’s not online. 10. Take this time to slow down, be gentle on urself and learn how to create a life you don’t need a retreat from...in many ways, this solitude is a gift if you’re willing to accept it.
