1. NOTICE YOUR JUSTIFICATION LISTS When you're afraid of something, it means it's time to up your game and you're resisting. Acknowledge the resistance. Then start to look at the small ways you resist. We chronically stop ourselves before we even start. Like finding fault with the things you're dreaming about or claiming that they are unrealistic or too expensive. Or you see others doing what you want to do and you're not, so you make up a reason why they can and you can't. Sound familiar? Those excuses let you off the hook from doing small things to get you to the big goal 2. BIG WINS ARE THE RESULT OF LOTS OF TINY SUCCESSES When you dream about something , you don't have to quit your job to do it because that will only trigger paralyzing fear. You can decide to do one small thing each day to get you closer to that goal. For me, when I had zero pennies, I went and sat in Barnes & Nobles and read travel books about Morocco and took notes so when the opportunity arose, I would be armed and ready to leap. I did that for 10 years once a month. 3. COMMIT TO THE IDEA LONG BEFORE YOU HAVE A PLAN DreamBuilding is sort of like a wonderful, impossible relationship with a man who lives on the other side of the world who you know is your soulmate, but he's gotta get to your side of the world and build a life first. Or finish processing the divorce papers....Howlin. That's what manifesting a dream is like. A wonderful friend of mine, Imani Wilson is a great adventurer, she would always call me from Bahia or Senegal or Paris and I was like, you're a starving writer like me, how are you always travelling? She said, I commit to the idea long before I have a plan on how to make it come true. She said, "Buy a plane tix to where you want to go that departs one year from the day you book it. Within that year, you'll find a way to take that trip, come hell or high water. She was right. Take the Leap, but give yourself a cushion, for me that cushion was one year. When I moved to Morocco, I asked a friend to buy my ticket for me because I was too scared to push the button. So, she did it for me. I paid her, but at the time, it was much more about being afraid to push that Travelocity purchase button. That's how terrified I was, but she reminded me of all the little things I've done to get to Morocco:
